The creation of “A Dialogue Between ‘women’”,a solo performance collaborated with San Francisco Visual Artist Stella Zhang. The work deals with one of my main preoccupations: Where does the women power come from? In this piece I put together in a gallery space a dancer with Stella’s exhibition “0-Viewpoint”, especially one of her installation entitled “0-Viewpoint-6”.
The first time I met Stella Zhang’s work was during Art Basel 2015 in the Art Central show. She used simple white sheet linen material, of which many layers created a load, twisted, stretched, pleated, folded and knotted to cover all the space around. It gave me a strong visual impact and feminine energy. The fabric to me was like a swaddle covering a new born baby, a blanket covering a body, like a soft and tender body, at the same time struggling and tearing; like a uterus, a scar, a women; like water. In this inspiration, the texture of water particularly represents the strength of women. It became my very simple starting point. I choose a red dress to reflect an invisible wound. In the end of the show I took the dress off of me to be as free as a newborn in this world. During the rehearsals in the gallery, Stella and I shared a lot and exchanged thoughts. She was highly supporting to my idea to destruct her “0-Viewpoint-6” at the end of performance. To me, this is the continuous cycle of emerging and dissolving nature of change that is the essence of life.
Experiencing the performance, interacting with Stella’s artwork, I deeply felt a sense of spiritual freedom. As an artist I want to maintain this spiritual freedom to create art and research real meaning of life.
